Do you know every web page and blog have two locations one is http://domain.com or domain.com and another is http://www.domain.com or www.domain.com where domain.com is your blog’s domain name (like eithoelam.com in our case) and look bellow the problems that occurs dues to this and how we lose rankings (PR) as www has a separate ranks than Http? Even sometimes the contents of the www and non-www sites are different.

What The Problem Which Is Actually Unknown To Most Of Us

Search engines and browsers lead to separate pages for users browsing www.domain.com and only domain.com so you either lose a lot of visitors because your site is www.yoursitename.com but all traffic goes to yoursitename.com or vice versa. Some times they (www & non-www) may have the same content they have separate ranks in search engines and Alexa. Also search engines rate both the www and non-www versions of the same domain separately and assign different page ranks to them even though they are the same websites and same content. We have to redirect www to non-www if www has less page rank than a non-www version of site else we have to redirect in a reverse way.

Once for my website http://www.usainfoking.com which has page rank 1 and there I lost a lot of links because users were visiting http://usainfoking.com and some links were pointing to www page and some to non-www pages. Also for usainfoking.com, there is no page rank but for www.usainfoking.com page rank is 1 so I redirected non-www to wwwusainfoking.com and now my predicted page rank is 3. But now I redirected all non-www pages to www pages i.e. http://usainfoking.com to http://www.usainfoking.com and all the rank (google SERP and page ranks) of non-www pages and traffic would be redirected and added to the www page.

Tutorial To Fix This WWW -Non-WWW Prob. And Increase Page Rank

Fix the www and non www problem of your blog. Increase page rank
Fix the www and non www problem of your blog. Increase page rank

Use the tricks below if you want either non-www redirected to www or reverse. Just visit this page rank checker site and check the page rank of yoursite.com (the non-www one) and for www.yoursite.com (www one). If you see different page ranks for both of them then redirect that with less PR to the one with high pr. Suppose yoursite.com has less pr than www.yoursite.com then redirect yoursite.com to www.yoursite.com (non-www to www redirection) so that now your site would be known by address www.yoursite.com instead of yoursite.com and someone who visits yoursite.com would be redirected to www.yoursite.com.

If both the www and non-www versions have the same pr then decide which one you want to keep as the permanent address of your webpage www or non-www then perform the required redirection either www to non-www or non-www to www. And if you have a single location i.e www or non-www your page rank for that location would increase because all links pointing to the older location would point to this automatically as they would be redirected. Search engine rankings would be redirected too.

Redirection of WWW domain to None WWW Domain

Permanent Redirection Of www.domain.com to domain.com pr http://www.domain.com to http://domain.com

In the same folder of your web server where you find the index.php of your blog/site find a file named .htaccess Open it and put the codes below and save.

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.(.*) [NC]RewriteRule ^(.*) http://%1/$1 [R=301]

This 301 redirection is permanent and most efficient as this is visible to search engines and others. This is done to remove www from the website URL as we do.

Redirection Of Non-WWW Domains To WWW One

Permanent Redirection Of http://domain.com or domain.com to http://www.domain.com or www.domain.com Respectively

Open .htaccess file that’s available in your web host in the same folder as index.php of your blog/site (usually ) and put following lines of code in it and save.

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^domain.com [nc]rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [r=301,nc]

But remember to replace domain.com with your domain name.com and do the same for http://www.domain.com else it won’t work.

PS:- These .htaccess 301 redirections would work on Linux servers with Apache Mod-Rewrite module enabled which is commonly used by most websites and blogs. Even though there are other redirection techniques like PHP redirection javascript redirection this method which I specified is the best one as it would reflect in search engines and others and is permanent. This won’t work for IIS servers and JSP websites but you can comment if you require redirection from them.
